Articles

I will share some of the articles that I read during this semester.

One of the articles that I read and loved it is "Are You (P) Interested in 21st Century Teaching and Learning" written by Rachael Huber And Celeste C. Bates in July 2016, talked about that by using Pinterest teachers can store organize countless online resources for enhancing the classroom learning environment, saving time when planning and preparing lessons, so Pinterest can serve as a resource repository and provide networking and professional learning opportunities for teachers around the world. Another, major point that Huber and Bates claimed, is that during the search process, it is important for early childhood teachers to be selective when conducting searches and storing pins. And one of the quotes that grabbed my attention in this article was "Searches may also bring up pins not worth exploring, so evaluating which paths to explore further is important”. Page 27.

A second article that I read and liked it was "Digital Tools to Broaden learning"  written by Douglas Fisher and Nancy Frey, who are professors in the Department of Educational Leadership at San Diego State University. Fisher and Frey (2017) stated that, Universal Design for Learning (UDL) which addresses "the disability of schools rather than students", and the governing principles of UDL for giving students  multiple means of engagement, action and expression, and representation. and they claimed that nowadays advances in technology had a greater impact on students with learning differences than in the area of communication and composition. The thought-provoking quote of this reading is that, “UDL is not only for students with identified disabilities; it’s meant to improve the learning lives of all students by widening the path”. A third article that I read, titled "Footprints" written by Richardson (2008) claims that, sharing and networking our work and, to some extent, our personal lives. Sharing is the fundamental building block for building connections and networks. Moreover, publishing content online begins the process of becoming “Googleable”, it also makes us findable by others who share our passions or interest. He also stated, that more than ever before, students have the potential to own their own learning, and educators have to help them seize that potential, and help them learn how to identify their passions. The quote that seized my attention while reading was “Some of it may be good, some may be bad, and most is beyond your control.” Page 1

And the last article that I want to discuss is titled "Clicking Across Cultures" written by Cutshall (2009) highlighted that, teachers are using technologies such as Skype, wikis, and asynchronous conversation tools to foster bilingual conversations and dissolve cultural barriers. For example, Lesilie Davison, a Spanish teacher who uses Skype to help students interact in the target language with native speakers, as well as to create a sense of global community. Another issue that he highlighted, is that using technology will enhance language learning, as in the 5Cs, communication, cultures, connections, comparisons and communities as essential elements of skill in foreign languages. The major quote of this article is, “The focus of digital tools in language classes must always be on facilitating language acquisition, not on simply using high-tech skills”.  Page 42
